HEIMERSTEIN, Multi Sensory Truck
2003
With a commission by SKOR (Art in Public Space) Erik van Lieshout resided three months in Heimerstein, Rhenen (NL), a living and nursing facility for mentally disabled adult people. Apart from making the film ‘Happiness’ (2003, now in the collection of Kunsthaus Düsseldorf) Erik van Lieshout and his brother Bart van Lieshout re-built a Dutch supermarket-van (SRV-wagen) into a Multi Sensory Environment space. They participated in the annual Truckers-Day of the region, August 2003.The exterior of the multi-sensory-truck consisted of mirrored perspex, thus reshaping the bodies and faces of the so called ‘normal’ people.
